This project includes the restoration and protection of a major tributary to the Tar River. It includes smaller tributaries that will both provide and improve habitat for the critically endangered Tar River Spinymussel. This freshwater mussel is in danger of extinction unless humans intervene; its home environment has been almost decimated by silt, polluted runoff, and wastewater discharge. The project is located in the Tar/Pam 01 basin which is becoming a heavily developing watershed as growth north of Raleigh expands into Franklin County.
