The Pate Family Mitigation Bank is located in Carroll County, Georgia, about 13 miles east-southeast of Carrollton, within the Middle Chattahoochee River Basin. This part of Georgia sits squarely in the service area for much of south Atlanta, a region with a lot of growth. The project also qualifies for the Upper Chattahoochee secondary service area.
The bank covers a conservation easement of approximately 58 acres within a larger 135-acre working property. The Pate family has continued active cattle and hay operations on the higher ground, and V2 worked closely with them to design a project that protects the stream corridors without taking the farm out of production. That kind of partnership is something we take seriously.
The project includes approximately 5,011 linear feet of perennial channel restoration, roughly 3,289 linear feet of non-perennial channel restoration, and about 7.4 acres of wetland enhancement. All channels will be restored with natural, stable patterns that improve bedform diversity, reduce bank erosion, restore floodplain connectivity, and create better in-channel conditions for macroinvertebrates. Wetland work will focus on restoring historical water table conditions, reestablishing native plant communities, and improving both landscape connectivity and nutrient retention.
